GDPR Software Toolbox

The General Data Protection Regulations are an EU directive for the protection and management of personal data that applies to anyone doing business with EU Member states. Isle of Man and UK legislation will be in effect from May 25th 2018, so businesses of all sizes are rushing to manage their compliance before time runs out.

My GDPR Software Toolbox is a suite of simple, focussed programs to help simplify, standardize and manage the production and maintenance of some of the paperwork and processes necessary in the move towards compliance. The Toolkit is far from a complete solution - some things required to implement a comprehensive GDPR strategy and solution simply cannot be automated - but it can help in the creation of some aspects of the overall process.

The programs are written in B4J, and as such produce JAVA executable files that are platform agnostic. I have, however, packaged installers for Microsoft Windows as this is my preferred platform and also that of my major clients.

I have decided to not make these programs freely available, but rather to offer them to clients who ask for assistance with their GDPR compliance strategies. As such they exist to make my work with these clients quicker and easier to complete.

Here is a list of the current components, along with links to the manuals for the programs which will give a good guide to what the toolkit is capable of.

GDPRMapper

GDPR Mapper assists in the creation of a Data Processing Map as part of the analysis of data processing within a business. Using a colourful interface and closely following Isle of Man Information Commissioner guidelines and examples it allows you to gather the required data, tie the threads together and produce a comprehensive, formatted report that can be printed easily.

GDPRAccountability

GDPR Accountability uses a question and answer formula to build a comprehensive report that outlines the steps that have been taken to ensure that accountability, training and mitigation procedures and management responsibility for the G.D.P.R. requirements of the organisation have been implemented.

Again using a colourful interface and closely following Isle of Man Information Commissioner guidelines and examples, it allows you to gather the required data, tie the threads together and produce a comprehensive, formatted report that can be printed easily.

GDPRInventory

GDPR Inventory allows the user to create a comprehensive inventory of the data they store, how it is stored, where it is stored and who is responsible for it. GDPR Inventory can be used in association with GDPR Mapper and GDPR Accountability to build a documentary framework outlining and maintaining G.D.P.R. compliance.

With a consistent interface mirroring the other programs in the Toolkit, GDPR Inventory can be used as a data gathering tool prior to using GDPR Mapper, or as a stand-alone database and report generator for thos who are compiling ther map manually.

More To Come

I'm currently working on some other tools as part of the Toolkit. Work is progressing steadily on a Data Access Monitor program that can help with the implementation of data security monitoring on a PC or shared server resource.
